PROBLEM
Deforestation is the deliberate removal of forests to repurpose land for other uses. It is exacerbating the rate of climate change, which then leads to additional deforestation, thus creating a positive feedback loop. Forests are vital to the livelihoods of humans and animals alike, possessing plant life and animal life with uses that have still yet to be discovered. If destroyed, we risk eliminating the possibilities of future innovations along with a plethora of other issues. Simply put, a world without trees is a dark, grey world.
CURRENTLY
-
At the current rate of destruction, forests would cease to exist by the year 2100, a year some of us will witness. We have already lost forests that accumulate to greater than the size of South Africa just between the years 1990-2016. Even with the agreements and treaties humans have signed, the rate of deforestation is still increasing at unprecedented rates.
Every 1.2 seconds, the time it takes you to read this, a forest the size of a football field is destroyed.

Some points mentioned within the article:
-
“The food we eat is directly causing deforestation”: the major driver behind deforestation is agriculture and not for wood or paper
-
The “destruction is totally pointless”: we can feed our growing population with the food that is being wasted
