Lulu

Meet Lulu, an intelligent and curious long-eared owl from Chicago who lives a pretty normal day-to-day life. Like all owls her age, Lulu goes to school every Monday through Friday from 8 am to 3 pm and always looks forward to taking naps when she gets home. Being a straight-A student (except for that one B in history), she can usually be found studying for school exams or completing her never-ending list of homework assignments. In her free time, Lulu loves reading books of all genres: fantasy, romance, nonfiction- you name it! She’s always in the mood for figuring out a new puzzle, and she has to admit: time really does fly by when you’re having fun!

One day, her history teacher gave the class an assignment in which they had to research a global issue that they found to be interesting. For little Lulu, that didn’t sound like it’d be a difficult task. After coming home from a long day of school, she sat down at her small wooden desk (her favorite little corner of the world) to complete her assignments for the day. While scrolling through the internet, she came across an article about kids in countries such as Somalia, Ethiopia, and Haiti who’d never gone to school before, and this alarming news really caught her attention. After all, the kids she knew all went to school, and she’d always thought that it was a given for children to get an education from an early age. Curious, she continued to dig deeper, searching for more articles and books about this apparently widespread but often overlooked topic and soon came to realize just how lucky and privileged she was to be able to go to school each day.

Feeling extremely motivated to make a difference in these young children’s lives, Lulu began to host fundraisers and send donations in hopes of helping more kids gain access to a very valuable opportunity that she had previously taken for granted: receiving an education. Today, Lulu has made it her number one priority to spread awareness about this issue and hopes that one day (hopefully in the near future), we’ll all live in a world where every child has equal access to a decent and adequately funded education.
